INERIS

Institut National de l’Environnement et des Risques

Founded in 1990, Ineris is a French public institute of industrial and commercial nature, under the supervision of the French Ministry of Environment.

The mission of Ineris is to contribute to the prevention of risks posed by economic activities to the health and safety of people, assets and to the environment. The various activities of Ineris include:
• Coordinating and participating in national and international research programs related to risks and the environment,
• Providing technical support to public authorities in the drafting and implementation of regulations and standards,
• Providing studies and consultancy services to public authorities, industry and local authorities,
• Developing methodological and decision-support guides and providing information and training to economic and institutional players.

The research activities of Ineris on hydrogen essentially consists in:
• characterizing and understanding the physics and effects of hydrogen releases, dispersion, ignition and explosion by the means of laboratory, real-scale experiments and numerical tools;
• assessing, preventing and mitigating risks associated to hydrogen systems and hydrogen cavern storages;

Role in the project

In the HyPSTER project, INERIS is involved in the risk analysis, gas monitoring and review of regulations and standards.
